A working introduction

I used to call myself the bored storyteller. The name still fits. I remain restless, curious, and interested in the stories people, places, and seemingly ordinary things have to tell.

The heart of it
The heart of it has always been writing.
I was drawn to the way a word can change meaning through context, placement, or tone. I still enjoy taking a familiar fact, trope, or saying and turning it on its head. For me, writing has always been part expression and part puzzle.
That instinct eventually led me beyond copy. Data is another way of finding a narrative. Strategy is deciding which patterns matter and what to do with them. Operations turn that conclusion into something people can repeat. They are different materials, but I approach them with the same desire to make something complicated clearer.
The path has taken me through editorial, branded content, e-commerce, analytics, audience development, digital strategy, and the systems that connect them.

How I work
I usually see the ending first.
When I was writing, I often knew the final line, the kicker, or the quote I wanted to end on before I had written the opening. The difficult and interesting part was finding the right way there.
I work similarly now. I begin with a clear outcome and work backward through the decisions needed to reach it. The difficult and interesting part is finding the right way there.
The result still has to survive contact with actual work. It should make sense to the people using it, respect the limits they work within, and remain useful after the presentation ends.

Pretends to be a photographer and a good writer.
That is how I describe myself on Instagram, where I post photographs and the occasional poem or piece of prose. It captures my discomfort with calling myself a photographer, or even a good writer, despite spending years taking photographs and writing.
In my twenties, I built trips around hostels and long journeys over land, saving on comfort so I could spend more on experience. I still travel, but I no longer treat discomfort as proof that a trip mattered. I move more slowly now, chase fewer attractions, and leave more room to notice what is actually there.
I am told I am an amazing conversationalist. I choose to interpret that as being an acquired taste.
